Career Guidance/ Resources Help for Schools
- Schools in Wattala such as St. Anne’s Convent, St. Anthony’s College & Nayakakanda Convent were the initial participants in our CSR efforts in September 2006. We provided career guidance to 300 A/L and Passed students.
- Students of Lumbini college were also part of the Abans career guidance program.
- St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa received sponsorship from Abans in October 2006 for the school prefects day. This event was a colourful evening which brought together prefects from the leading schools in Colombo.
- As part of education infrastructure development we donated chairs and a water pump to a rural school in Dambulla, that had been deprived of these facilities. Abans will work closely with the school to enhance standards and facilities.
EDEX 2007
Abans was part of Sri Lanka’s largest careers expo. We welcomed university graduates and employment seekers to learn about Abans and get a clear perspective of the available career paths.
Bringing CSR Home….
In true spirit we have decided to offer the children or our valued employees the opportunity to participant in an IT certification program. The program curriculum, promotional material, and certificates were designed by the training department. The program facilitation and certification exams were also be conducted by the staff of the training department. The children received full scholarships for the ICDL examination (International Diploma in Computer Studies)
Working with GTZ
GTZ invited Abans to participate in a workshop they were conducting for the students of the Samanture Technical College. The Zone and Regional managers in the Ampara area readily volunteered to provided training and advice to the students. Abans also played a key role in the technical colleges and industry get together in Kaluthara.
Chamber of Commerce
CSR Subcommittee: Abans as part of the CSR subcommittee focused on enhancing primary education, has teamed up with other leading organizations in Sri Lanka and focused our efforts towards the children of the plantation workers. The main areas of focus will be English education and also a drive to keep children in school.
Empowering Women
Women's empowerment has been a key focus area in the Abans CSR effort and we have worked very closely in this endeavor with the WCIC.
